Your gold is worth its weight in pure gold at that day's price. Three things set the number: the karat, which is how pure the gold is, the weight of the piece, and the gold spot price on the day you sell. A fair buyer tests the karat, weighs your gold in front of you, and shows you how the offer is figured. At Gavco Jewelers we do all three at the counter, and the test and the offer are free.

We have bought gold at our family owned shop on Biscayne Blvd since 1993, a short drive south of Aventura Mall. This page explains what decides the value so you can walk in knowing what to expect. When you are ready, our sell gold in Aventura page covers what we buy and how you get paid that day.

Three Things That Decide What Your Gold Is Worth

1

The Karat

Karat is how pure the gold is. 24k is nearly pure, 18k is 75 percent gold, 14k is about 58 percent, and 10k is about 42 percent. The higher the karat, the more the piece is worth by weight.

2

The Weight

Gold is weighed by the gram or the pennyweight on a calibrated scale. More weight means more gold, so a heavy chain is worth more than a thin one at the same karat. We weigh every piece while you watch.

3

The Daily Gold Price

The gold spot price changes every day on the world market. Your offer is based on that day's price, so the same chain can be worth a little more or less depending on when you sell.

How We Test and Weigh Your Gold

A stamp inside a ring or on a clasp is a starting point, not proof, so we check it. Here is what happens at the counter, all in front of you.

What a Fair Gold Offer Looks Like

Your offer is the amount of pure gold in your piece, priced at that day's gold price. The karat tells us how much of the piece is real gold, the scale tells us the weight, and the day's price turns that into a dollar figure. Here is how the math works on a piece many people bring in.

Say you bring in a 14k gold chain that weighs 20 grams. 14k gold is about 58 percent pure, so that chain holds close to 11.7 grams of real gold. We weigh it while you watch, confirm the karat with a quick test, and multiply the real gold weight by the price of gold that day. The same 20 gram chain in 18k, which is 75 percent pure, would hold about 15 grams of real gold and bring more. That is why the karat matters as much as the weight.

We never figure the number from the stamp alone. Two chains that both weigh 20 grams can be worth very different amounts if one is 10k and the other is 18k. Once we know the true karat and the weight, the offer follows the day's gold price, and we show you each step so the number makes sense.

How to Know an Offer Is Fair

You do not need to be an expert to sell gold well. A few simple checks tell you whether an offer is honest.

Why the Test and the Offer Are Free

We do not charge to look at your gold, and we never push you to sell. You can bring a piece in, watch us test and weigh it, hear the offer, and walk out with your gold if the timing is not right. There is no cost and no pressure.

That is how we have worked since 1993, and it is why so many people in Aventura, Sunny Isles Beach, North Miami Beach, and Hallandale Beach come back and send their families. When your gold jewelry is worth keeping instead of selling, our jewelry repair counter can size, solder, or restring it instead.

Frequently Asked Questions About Selling Gold

How is the price of my gold decided?

Three things set the price: the karat, which is how pure the gold is, the weight in grams, and the gold spot price that day. We test the karat, weigh the piece in front of you, and use the current price to figure a fair offer. Stones and brand can add value on top of the gold.

How do you test if my gold is real in Aventura?

We check the karat stamp, then confirm it with a simple test at the counter while you watch. The test tells us the real purity, since a stamp alone does not always match. There is no charge to test your gold, and you are never asked to sell.

Do I need an appointment to sell gold?

No. You can walk in during our hours at 16169 Biscayne Blvd in Aventura. We test and weigh your gold, explain the numbers, and make an offer on the spot. If you take it, you are paid that day. If you do not, you take your gold home.

Will you buy broken or mismatched gold?

Yes. Broken chains, single earrings, bent rings, and dental gold all have value based on their weight and karat. The gold is worth the same whether the piece is wearable or not, so there is no need to sort or clean it first.

How much is my gold worth per gram in Aventura?

It depends on the karat and the gold price that day. Higher karat gold holds more pure gold per gram, so it is worth more. A gram of 18k is worth more than a gram of 14k, and both move with the daily gold price. We weigh your gold, confirm the karat, and show you the day's price for your karat before you decide. The test and the offer are free.

How do I get the most for my gold?

Sell where your gold is tested and weighed in front of you and where the offer is figured from the karat, the weight, and the day's gold price. Bring everything, since broken and mismatched pieces still hold their gold value. Ask how the number was reached, and know you can always take your gold home. We have worked this way at 16169 Biscayne Blvd in Aventura since 1993.
